Memorials

“I know there can no Heaven be if my pets aren't there to welcome me."

We sadly said goodbye to the following companions who have left us and taken a little bit of our hearts with them:

2000

Baby – a 1 ½ -year-old gray, brown, and white spayed female DSH tabby cat. Feral when you arrived, but very sweet when we lost you to FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), September 16th

Little Princess – a yellow and white DSH spayed female cat, about 1 year old, also very sweet, and also to FIP, September 16th

Cinder- a solid black DSH neutered male cat, 16 mos. Another very sweet “purrsonality”, and also to FIP, September 16th.

**Since then, we’ve learned that FIP doesn’t always mean a death knell. Baby was actually beginning to gain weight, but the thinking at that time was that FIP was extremely contagious and all felines that were felt to have it (there wasn’t a definitive test for it, just certain symptoms and weight loss) should be euthanized to avoid infecting other cats. Little Princess and Cinder were definitely sick and not improving. It was suggested that FFL’s entire feline population be euthanized, but I refused to put healthy cats to sleep. We now know that FIP is an autoimmune disease.

2002

Teddy- a 10-week-old German Shepherd mix male, from parvo, September 8th

Beau- a 12-week-old Redbone Hound mix male, from parvo, September 10th

Luke a 12-week-old Redbone Hound mix male, from parvo, September 11th

Jasmine- an 11-week-old German Shepherd mix female, pneumonia, September 15th

**These puppies were four of nine FFL pulled from the local shelter to go to a rescue in PA. These four puppies broke with parvo within 3 days. We managed to contain the parvo so that the other five puppies didn’t get it, and I was giving the four sick ones sub-q fluids and pepto bismol several times a day. Then the other five began coughing (it was a lousy week!).  Kennel cough is airborne and much harder to contain.  Jasmine was the only one of the four that survived the parvo, but came down with kennel cough that quickly went into pneumonia. Despite the vets’ best efforts, she couldn’t fight off a second illness just after the first.  The other five puppies recovered from the kennel cough (as did a number of FFL’s adult dogs who also caught it!) and eventually went on to the rescue in PA.

2005

Momma Dog- a solid black spayed female Norwegian Elkhound mix, 12 yrs plus, on April 19th, kidney failure on top of mast call cancer. It took a long time to get you to come inside, but once you did, you decided it was where you wanted to be. Your coat was so soft, and you had the gentlest personality.

Rufus- 14 yrs, a neutered male red and white Beagle, May 20th, cancer. What a gentle fella! You loved the couch, especially if there was a person next to you!

Little Cora, a red and white female puppy, one of 4 abandoned (and found by a young couple) along the Greenbrier River, just a week old. The vet said sometimes puppies "fail to thrive", and even though they could find nothing obviously wrong, something was, and we lost you May 25th.

Bekka- 12 yrs plus, a spayed female Walker Hound mix, May 31st. You were the sweetest of the sweet, and left us too suddenly, baby girl.

Midnight- 14 yrs, spayed female Longhaired black/silver cat, July 11th. Such a beautiful, soft coat! And a soft, sweet personality to match.

Baloo- 14 years, neutered male Collie mix, August 10th. You were a stinker- but we knew that when you arrived!  You were a beauty!

Jeremy- 11 years, a neutered male Walker Hound mix, September 24th, kidney failure. You were a pretty boy, very shy and not comfortable with humans, but never offered to bite.

Fuzzy (a.k.a. Mr. Tuzzers)- 10 years, a neutered male Terrier mix, October 20th, osteosarcoma. You were playful but patient, and should have found a permanent home because you were such a "Benjie"-type dog, but that didn't happen. Then cancer took you, sweet boy.

Skeeter- 14 yrs, a spayed female black with white DSH cat, October 25th. You and your buddies had to make a big change and come to FFL, but you all adjusted well and seemed to be happy.

Sally Ann McGinty- 8 years, a spayed female Lab/Pit Bull mix, November 9th. Such a people dog, but you didn't always care for every dog you were introduced to! Lymphoma took you way too early, sweet girl!

Gidget- 9 years, spayed female DSH white and tabby cat, December 1st. When you and your buddies arrived at FFL in cardboard boxes from Charleston, you flew out of the box as soon as you saw a little daylight! Just missed my face- whew! But you gradually tamed down and didn't mind living with humans- or even some dogs!

Trixie- only 8 years old, a spayed female shorthaired white mix with black ticks, very suddenly on December 8th, henagiosarcoma. You had very short, soft hair (that shed a LOT!), and a gentle, sweet nature.

2006

Babe- 12 yrs, a neutered male Dachshund, Chihuahua mix, paraplegic, May 8th. You loved to zip around outside in your little "cart" that was made especially for you and held your back end up so you could go-go-go!

Todd (a.k.a. Toddies)- 14 yrs, a neutered male Yorkie, May 9th, oral cancer. What a big personality! Why do the little dogs seem to rule the roost? You were a character!

Honey- 9 yrs, a spayed female Hound/Lab mix, May 19th. You were as sweet as your name, baby girl. You left too soon...

Major- 12 yrs plus, a neutered male black Lab/Chow mix, August 8th. You were abandoned at Lewis Terrace in Lewisburg as an adult, but loved people. Your only fault was that you liked fresh chicken dinners!

Sylvia- 10 yrs, a spayed female Longhaired cat, August 29th. Very shy at first, but warmed up to people. You had the prettiest silvery coat, different shades of silver and gray.

Sweetie- 9 yrs, a spayed female Lab/Hound mix, and littermate to Honey, September 8th, cardiac arrest. Another girl whose personality matched her name! You also left us too soon, baby girl.

Sparky- 14 years, a neutered male shorthaired Terrier mix, October 3rd, kidney failure. You had LOTS of prey drive, and we hoped that a farmer with a rat problem would be interested in you, but you spent your days at FFL, eating your (and everybody else's) toenails on Toenail Trimming days! You also enjoyed being a couch potato.

Penny (a.k.a. Penny Candy)- 15 years, a spayed female Australian Shepherd mix, October 17th. Beautiful black and tan fur and full of energy! You would have done well on a farm with plenty to do, but seemed content at FFL- especially when you could grab a space on the couch next to a human!

2008

Jewel- (a.k.a. Jewely-Pop), a Golden Retriever mix spayed female, 13 years, on January 5th. After surviving surgery to remove an 8# malignant mass attached to the spleen and living another two years, you lost the use of your back legs.  I miss your paw on my arm.

Candy- a Chow mix spayed female, 15 years, on January 18th.  Such a gentle, patient girl.

Tigger Two- an orange striped neutered male Domestic Shorthair cat, 8 years, on April 27th.  You allowed us to live in the same house, but we couldn't touch you.

Boose-Boose- an orange striped with white neutered male Domestic Shorthair cat, 8 years, on June 12th.

Punkin- a Jack Russel/Beagle mix spayed female, 15 years plus, on July 23rd, oral cancer.  Former shotgun rider and "go to town" companion. What a hole you left….

Brownie- a Dachsie/Chihuahua mix spayed female, 14 years, on July 25th, kidney failure.  You either loved or hated squirrels- we were never sure! Such a gentle girl.

Marley- an Aussie/Lab mix neutered male, 14 years, on August 8th, lung cancer.  What an intelligent dog, and such a wonderful temperament, and a quick learner!

Big Mac, the Halloween Cat- a black male Domestic Shorthair, neutered male, 8 years plus, on August 8th.  We'll never know what happened before you were rescued.  You were scary to look at and liked to pretend you were a tiger....

Sara Beth- a Black Lab mix spayed female, 16 years plus, on August 22nd.  Such a gentle, gentle girl, abandoned with a puppy we assumed was yours.  He got a home; yours was with FFL.

Eightball- a Corgi mix spayed female, 12 years plus, on September 10th, cancer.  You must've been overwhelmed being around so many other animals after your caregiver passed on, but you made a place for yourself and accepted your new life.

Sam(antha)- a Schnauzer mix spayed female, 14 years, on September 29th.  So much energy!  The pictures of you as a puppy still make us laugh!

Sandy Sue- a spayed female mix, 11 years, on November 3rd, bladder cancer.  So very sweet.  We'll never know how you got that endearing "head tilt"!

Freckles- a Walker hound spayed female mix, almost 15 years, on December 30th, diabetes.  You were the first to have been here from a puppy in 1994 to a cranky "old lady"!

2009

Keiffer- a yellow Lab mix neutered male, 15 years plus, on January 5th, kidney failure.  You had a rough start, but had a good life at FFL.

Jake- a Spaniel/hound mix neutered male, 15 years, on January 25th, kidney failure.  A gentle boy, and such a trooper.

Too Big- a Chihuahua mix neutered male, 16 years, on February 4th.  You had the cutest underbite!

Smokey- a black Domestic Shorthair neutered male cat, 8 years, on April 10th.  So sweet, but plagued with health problems.

Ebony- a black Domestic Shorthair spayed female cat, 10 years, on June 1st.  The smallest cat we ever had.  Another "tiger-pretender" but the easiest cat to treat.

Tux(edo)- a Lab/Chow mix neutered male, 12 years, on July 2nd, cancer.  Those black points on that beautiful honey-gold face were so pretty.

Maizie- a Domestic Longhair Tortie spayed female cat, 9 years, on July 15th, kidney failure.  Very gentle, and such unusual green eyes!

MowMow- a black Domestic Shorthair neutered male cat, 10 years, on July 16th.  A beautiful, sweet boy.

Rugby- our biggest boy, a neutered male Lab/Great Dane mix, 8 1/2 years, on July 20th, cancer.  You were so good with puppies!

Sonja, a.k.a. "Sonie"- a black and tan long-haired Chow mix spayed female, 9-10 yrs, September 20th.  What a sweet, gentle girl; you got along with everybody.

Buddy Bluetick- a purebred neutered male Bluetick hound, appr. 10-12 years, September 23rd, cancer.  We found you curled up in a roadside garbage dump and afraid of men, but you learned that not all humans are bad. A character-- typical hound disposition!

Dolly- a Chow/Aussie/German Shepherd mix sp female, 12 years, October 13th.  You had the softest, most unusually-marked black and silver coat!

Sasha- a black and tan spayed female Beagle mix, 17 years old, November 17th.  You were still a young dog at dinner time!

Loki- a black shorthaired neutered male cat almost 17 yrs and with us since 1994, on December 3rd.  Such a sweet, gentle boy!  Solid black except for a tiny white tip at the end of your tail.

Peach (who'd also been with us since a puppy in 1994, like Freckles)- a spayed female cream and "peach" Beagle mix, 15 years, December 31st.  One of the gentlest dogs we've ever had at FFL.

2010

Siam- a black and white Domestic Shorthair neutered male cat, 9 years old, January 5th.  The prettiest black and white cat; your markings were practically symmetrical, and that solid black tail-- gorgeous!

Tex- an orange Domestic Shorthair neutered male cat, 9 1/2 yrs. old, March 12th, possible FIP.  A "Garfield" face- but not quite as round- and a sweetheart.

Violet- a white-with-black Domestic Shorthair spayed female cat, 9 yrs. old, on March 25th.  So shy, just like the flower you were named after.

Tipsy- a Domestic Shorthair spayed female cat, mostly white with a few black patches (named after the "Tipsy" in The Cat Who books), approximately 20 years old, March 25th- our oldest cat.  You used to lie on the takeout ledge at Krazy Kats restaurant before FFL was asked to take you!

Quixote- a Malamute mix with 3 legs, 13-year-old neutered male, March 31st, cancer.  Abandoned as a young dog, but wearing a collar with the owner's name and phone number....  Such a gentle, beautiful boy!

Crystal- a gray and white 8 1/2-year-old Domestic Shorthair spayed female cat, April 6th, cancer.  So sweet.  You knew it was time to quit.

Bart- a 10 lb. longhaired neutered male mix, 17 yrs. plus, June 8th, cancer.  You spent the last 11 years as a paraplegic but kept your spunk and bright eyes.

Precious, a.k.a. Presh/Little Pair'p- a 13-years-plus spayed female Min Pin mix, June 22, very suddenly, hemolytic anemia.  Only ten pounds, but you sure let the world know you were here! You took such good care of me….

Paddy, a.k.a. Padre- a 13 ½-year-old neutered male Beagle mix brought to FFL on St. Patrick's Day over 13 years ago, August 7th, also suddenly.  Our Nurse Dog; tended to wounds, ears, eyes- you gave the other dogs extra TLC.

Tiffany, aka "Tiffy"- a 10 year old spayed female orange striped Domestic Shorthair cat (Smokey and Siam's littermate), August 10th.  Sweet face, very sweet personality.

Balto- a 13-year-old Old English Sheepdog spayed female mix, September 13th, cancer.  Wonder if you remembered stealing the neighbors' Christmas lights when you were a pup?

Hunter- a 9 year old black neutered male Domestic Longhair cat, September 21st.  You would've been the county shelter's first admission 9 years ago, but they weren’t open yet, so you were brought to FFL.

Megs- a 14-year-old spayed female Border Collie, September 30th, cancer.  Focused!  You were still ready to work, sweet girl.

Simba- a 13-year-old Bluetick neutered male, October 31st, lymphoma.  You were the "laid-backest", gentlest hound, who loved to ride "shotgun" and enjoyed stealing off the counter!

2011

Cheyenne- a 13-year-old Border Collie/Spaniel mix spayed female, January 19th, hemolytic anemia.  You brought a lot of smiles to the nursing home residents in your younger days.  We're grateful we had you longer than we should have after you got sick.

Bocephus- a 6 1/2 year old German Shepherd mix, neutered male, very suddenly, March 7th, possible malignant growth in the brain.  You were a "talker", and always sat down and looked up expectantly for your petting.  You left us way too early.

Black-Eyed Susie- a 16-year-old Beagle mix sp female, May 13th.  You had the sweetest, daintiest face.

Kayla- a 9-year-old black and white spayed female Domestic Shorthair cat, May 16th.  Another very sweet little soul, with such pretty green eyes!

Prince- a 15 year old German Shepherd/Chow mix neutered male, June 13th.  Such a beauty in your prime.  You're well now, big fella!

Patches- a 17-year-old spayed female Domestic Shorthair calico cat, June 18th.  Your personality matched your impish-looking face, but you loved attention when you reached your Golden Years.  Lord help us all when you had to be given oral meds, though- and bless the company who developed the one-time Convenia antibiotic shot!

Babs- a 10-year-old spayed female Domestic Shorthair black cat, July 11.  You refused to conform and stayed feral. You're free at last!

Figaro- a 14-year-old Domestic Shorthair, black & white neutered male, August 31st. FFL's self-appointed "test cat". You definitely ruled!  I still look for you sitting on the window ledge....

Corey- a white Collie/Shepherd/Hound neutered male, 13 years, September 7th, possible stroke.  Such a gentle dog; happy despite your long-term health problems. Your corner is an empty one now.

Courtney- a 9 year-old Domestic Shorthair, black and white spayed female, September 9th.  One of our smallest cats, very shy!

Rissie- a 13-year-old spayed female Domestic Shorthaired Tortoise-shell, November 9th.  Another pretty pair of green eyes!  You were such a "talker", still purring till the last heartbeat.  It's so quiet without you.

2012

Mr. Moofe (a.k.a. Moses)- a black Collie/Newfie mix neutered male, 14 yrs., January 16th.  Age took your dignity, but you were a trooper, old boy; gentle to the end.

Linus- a Domestic Shorthair cat, neutered male, gray and white, 11 yrs., January 25th, FIP. Arrived when you were a week old.  So very sweet! You curled up in my arms and left so peacefully.  There was even a tear on the vet's cheek.

Chip- a red-with-black neutered male Chow/Border Collie mix, 15 yrs. old, March 30th.  One of the best dogs ever at FFL, but you were so tired.  You've left a big hole here.

Little Fair Daisy- a sable (in your younger days) Beagle mix (Black-Eyed Susie’s littermate), spayed female, almost 17 years old, May 15th.  You were such a character, Li'l Daze- it will seem too quiet for awhile...

Hooberschnauzz (Hoober)- a black and cream spayed female Terrier mix, 16.5 years old, May 22nd. You and two littermates were left at FFL in a small box crisscrossed with electrical tape a few days before Christmas 1995.  Such a long life!  You were always very aloof and chose to not get too involved.

Emily Anne- a solid black spayed female Labrador Retriever mix, 14 years, June 2nd.  You spent the first half of your life hiding, but the second half was much better, Baby Girl. You're the last of The Big Five.

Sweetie- a black spayed female Chow mix, 11 yrs. plus, August 26th, cancer.  You weren't feeling very well, but you still had enough oomph to make "the little monsters" move! Your name matched your personality.

Gumpy- a "tootsie roll"-colored spayed female Doberman/Labrador mix, 15 years, August 27th.  Always the alpha girl and ready to stand up to ANY dog, but you loved your four little "proxy granddogs".  They will miss cuddling with you for naps and at night.

2013

Alf- a black neutered male Shar Pei mix, 17-18 years old, January 8th.  You lived a very long life, old boy- maybe it was all those Three Musketeers bars you were fed before you before you arrived at FFL?

Juliet- a spayed female Pit Bull/Red Tick hound mix, 15 yrs., January 13th, very suddenly hemagiosarcoma.  Such a pretty face- and beautiful eyes, like you had eyeliner all around them!

Brownie- a black and tan (with white feet) Beagle/Hound neutered male mix, 14 years old, January 24th, suddenly, lymphoma.  You were Regal’s buddy, and always let us know when it was feeding time. You weren't quiet till you got your bowl!

Holly- a spayed female Chow/American Eskimo mix, 14 years, February 15th, arthritis.  You loved attention and were so pretty with those warm brown eyes (you got those from your mother, Emma) in that creamy face.

Regal- a neutered male Pit Bull/Red Tick Hound mix, 15 years, March 7th.  You blossomed into a beautiful dog from the purposely-starved-to-hunt, 6-month-old pup you were when you first arrived at FFL so many years ago. (You were Juliet and Roamie’s littermate, and Brownie’s bud.)

Alison- a spayed female cat, gray striped Domestic Shorthair, 13-14 yrs., March 21st, cancer.  Such a sweet girl, very quiet.

Beanie- a neutered male Spaniel mix, 16 years, April 19th, recurring cancer. What a good, good dog you were!  Two major surgeries a year apart to remove that blasted tumor and it returned again. At least we got another year with you, sweet boy.

Kasey- a spayed female Terrier mix, 17 1/2 years, May 25th.  Such a long and happy life!  You were always an "in your face" dog and loved attention.  You passed almost a year to the day when your littermate, Hoober, left us.

William- a neutered male orange striped domestic shorthaired cat, 14 years, June 8th.  So very laid back! You especially liked cuddling with Keifer, a yellow Lab mix.

Lucky- a black Lab/Basset mix neutered male, 14 yrs plus, July16th. You started out such a stinker but ended up a good dog!

Emma- a solid white American Eskimo spayed female, 16 yrs., August 5th, kidney failure. Happy and active, with the warmest brown eyes! I remember picking you and your four fuzzy little puppies up when you were maybe two years old or less.

Abby, a.k.a. Yabbers- a Chihuahua/Boston Terrier spayed female mix, 18yrs, September 10th. We'd had you the longest, Yabbers. You kept us laughing with your unusual noises- and you were so affectionate!

2014

P.Nut Cat- a Domestic Shorthair neutered male, gray and white, 13 yrs., January 8th.  You were Linus's littermate and also arrived when you were a week old.  Your favorite place was on my left shoulder, even in the summer when I had on a lot less padding to absorb your "landing"!  Ouch!

Roamie- a red Pit Bull/Red Tick Hound spayed female mix, 16 yrs, January 29th. You were very shy from Day One when you arrived at FFL at about 6 months of age and at least 30% underweight.  You never liked being touched but otherwise appeared very happy.  You were never "in anybody's face" but you've left a big hole in the kitchen, baby girl.

Wiggles- a neutered male black and tan Terrier mix, 16 yrs, February 8th.  You weren't the biggest, but you knew how to throw your weight around and rule the bigger dogs!

Bobbie- an 11 yr old spayed female, tail-less black and white Domestic Shorthair, April 12th. What a time we had getting that left eye straightened up!  But you're completely well now, sweet girl.

Scooby- a just-turned-10-years-old, neutered male yellow Lab mix, July 9th, cancer.  What a water dog!  You were hilarious when you dunked your head and made "blubbing" sounds!

Cassie- a 14-yr-old tri-color Heeler/Beagle mix, spayed female, September 22nd.  You were a couch potato, and loved resting your chin on a knee or shoulder. Enjoy those new, strong ankles, baby girl!

SheShe- a 13-yr-old spayed female Aussie/Golden Retriever mix, a beautiful solid light sable color, on October 4th, hemagiosarcoma.  So bashful and so patient!

Shiloh- a large black and white hound/border collie mix, 16 yrs, on October 6th.  You were a SHARP dog!  You'd have made a wonderful family pet and herd dog.

Mork, a.k.a. Morkie- an 11-year-old neutered male very dark gray and white Domestic Longhair cat, December 10th, cancer. The largest of Kayla's litter. You were our "Frieda cat" (from Charlie Brown), a draper across an arm or a shoulder, and such a gentle personality.  You left us too soon, too fast.

Houdini, a.k.a. 'Dini, 17 yrs, Old English Sheepdog mix, spayed female, December 27th, osteosarcoma. Always a "dog dog", never comfortable with people, even after all these years.  You're now romping with your 7 littermates; no arthritis, no cancer!

Thumb (Thumbelina)- an 11 1/2-year-old spayed female black and white Domestic Shorthair cat, December 31st, kidney failure.  The smallest of Kayla's litter, very quiet and sweet.

2015

Lucy (the Lionhearted- a.k.a. Woosy-Doober)- a 14-year-old spayed female white and tabby Domestic Shorthair cat, January 17th.  Linus and P.Nut Cat's littermate; the smallest but the fiercest!  You earned your nickname!

Delilah- a 14-year-old spayed female white and red Hound mix, January 18th.  What a chewer, even as a senior!  You're the only dog at FFL who's ever eaten a Kuranda bed!

Cooper- a 16-year-old neutered male, black Poodley mix, January 25th.  You made us laugh when you were younger and loved shredding newspaper and paper towels.  You'd disappear for a few minutes then run into the room, barking, and turn a couple of tight circles- and you always had a piece of paper towel or newspaper hanging from your lip. We knew what you'd been up to!

Tracy- a 15 1/2-year-old spayed female Terrier/Beagle mix, January 28th.  You were hilarious when you used to fight with your feet!  You arrived at FFL when you were about 5 yrs old.  What a character!

Amy- a 14-year-old spayed female Husky/Beagle mix, March 9th.  Your "voice" gave away the Husky in you- wailing instead of barking (and you could make a lot of noise!). You loved play-bowing and growling like you'd eat everybody up, but that was just your "play mode".

Pablo- an almost-11 year old neutered male Yellow Lab/German Shepherd mix, June 22nd, cancer.  You were a real Velcro fella- just wanted to stay by someone's side, give love and receive a little in return.

Cubby- a 12-year-old tail-less, neutered male black-with-white Domestic Shorthair cat, June 22nd, cancer. Our "chirpee cat". So many happy little chirps!

CharChar- a 14-year-old, spayed female, solid black mostly-Chow mix, August 14th, severe hip dysplasia. The gentlest of the gentle. The Sycamore will always be "CharChar's Pee Tree" because you always went behind it to "go" while you peeked out the other side!

Melissa- a 13-year-old black and white Domestic Shorthair spayed female cat, August 24th. You were feral for years until we had to let your buddy Babs go on 7/11/11. It seemed like the very next day that you decided to let us be part of your life.  Your sunning spot in the window is empty now, but I know you're happy and back with Babs.

Kita Sue- a 15-year-old spayed female German Shepherd mix, September 14th, kidney failure.  We had to trap you all those years ago because you were feral.  It took a long time for you to trust, but you did.  You especially liked the cats, who slept with you, and you even enjoyed playing with the "little monsters" (four small feral dogs that were rescued in 2009).  You were quiet and stoic, and you've left a very "loud" hole here.

2016

CinCin (Cinnamon Bear)- a 14-year-old spayed female mahogany Chow/Newfoundland mix, suddenly, February 24th, cancer.  One of our largest and gentlest dogs.  Blind since you came to FFL at 14 weeks old, but got around well.  Easy-going until a collar or leash was put on, then you would lie down on your side and refuse to get up.  We had to carry you to the car, into the vet's, etc.  Take the collar off and voila!- you could walk again!  Such a stinker! Your passing was too sudden, baby girl, and your bed is very empty.

Mama Dog- a 17 years+, longhaired black spayed female mix, June 2nd. You were the gentlest of the gentle- and you were loved here.

Sahara- a 16-years, black and tan spayed female mix, June 2nd.  You were Mama Dog's "puppy". You were such a pretty girl, but feral to your last day. There were so many health problems between the two of you. It was time to cross the Bridge together.

Tucker- a 15-year-old, neutered male Beagle/Hound mix, July 30th.  You were the only dog with the courage to stand up to Snoopy when he was being a pill. You’d end up sitting because of weak back legs, but you could still show a lot of teeth and put Snoopy in his place! The hole you leave is a large one, ol' fella!

Jasmine- a 15-year-old, spayed female red Chow mix, August 6th. What a beautiful girl you were!  You gave birth to 3 gorgeous little pups at the animal shelter in 2002 and all of you came to FFL just a few days later. You were a good mother to little Alvin, Simon, and Theodore, but also trusting with all of us, too. You and Tucker became buddies and kept each other company for years. You left us just 6 days after we lost him.  I miss hugging your soft fur.

Dixie- a 15-year-old, gold spayed female Collie mix (although you looked like Daddy may have been a Coyote), August 19th, hemangiosarcoma. Your diagnosis took us by surprise. You were so alert and bright and active! Maxx still looks for you, baby girl.

Leo- a 14-year-old, neutered male "tuxedo" cat, August 26th. My "micro-cougar", such a regal face!  You didn't let me go anywhere inside without you.

Peanut- a 16 years + spayed female MinPin/Terrier/Chihuahua? mix, November 5th. You could wake from a deep sleep as soon as someone bit into an apple!

Nemo- a 12-year-old, neutered male yellow Lab mix with a cute underbite, December 28th. You endured respiratory issues for years, and arthritis the past couple years. You loved your acupuncture sessions and would be asleep and relaxed when they were through.  Now you can run and you can BREATHE!

2017

Bucky- a 15-year-old, neutered male mix- "a little long in the back and a little short in the leg", March 6th. You found us in August 2013, and were one of the sweetest dogs. We weren't prepared to lose you, but when we found out the cancer that was removed in May 2015 was back and had spread, it wasn't fair to make you stay. You LOVED cleaning out dog food cans and the cat's dish!

Harvey- a 17-year-old, neutered male Red Tick Coonhound, March 6th. In your younger days you loved to get out in the woods, usually by sneaking up behind us at the gate, barreling through, and you were off! You always came back, though.

Ruff- a 14-year-old, neutered male Australian Shepherd mix, March 16th. You were feral when you came to FFL at 6 months- such a cute pup!- and stayed shy with most people but you knew the vets and staff were trying to help. You'd been sick a long time and were ready to go on. Raisin misses you.

Missy- a 14-15 years+ spayed female Chihuahua, April 5th.  You were a 6 lb Force to be reckoned with! You always had the last word.  Stu (a Boxer) got up and gave you his bed every time you tottered over to it. You've left a big hole, little girl.

Splint/Taddie- a 9-year-old, neutered male red Hound mix, April 19th. You'd been here since you were 7 weeks old. I will miss you for a long, long time.

Raisin- a 16 ½-year-old spayed female tri-colored Chow mix, July 15th. You were such a gentle dog- and a beauty in your younger days with the tri-coloring and that plumey tail! You were tired and ready to go, baby girl. Maxx misses you, and I miss you padding around with me when I fed the kennel dogs. Nobody else had that privilege.

Tanner- @16-17 years old; a neutered male golden Chow mix, August 5th. What a cool dog you were! Slanted eyes, stiff hair, Labby ears, and the hair on your feet never grew out over your toes. You liked the little dogs and vice versa. Your buddy Tom will miss you. You were my snuggler.

Mindy- a black and white Domestic Shorthair spayed female cat, 15 years old, October 19th. You weren't well for a long time, Baby Girl, but stayed as long as you could. You're the last FFL cat to leave us.

2018

Snoopy- a large black and white neutered male Border Collie, 15 years old, June 2nd.  You didn’t have a “herd” to keep in line, so you ruled your fellow four-legged companions with an iron paw, but you weren’t without compassion; you were also the Master Nurse Dog, comforting the older dogs by licking faces and ears and I’m sure reminding them of “mom” and puppyhood…. Such a special dog.

2019

Stu- a fawn with white neutered male Boxer, 11 years old, September 5th. You were such a character! Great with the other dogs- even little Missy, a cranky senior Chihuahua who kept taking your bed. No problem; you’d get up and go curl up in hers, which was hilarious. Then she’d change her mind and want her bed back again. No problem; you’d get up and go back to your bed. You were the ultimate sweetie.

2020

Rocky- a white with red Dachsie/Jack Russel mix, 11 years old, August 1st polyarthropothy/hemolytic anemia. We fought with everything we had for two months but lost the battle. You were such a cutie at mealtime, trotting around the kitchen, getting up on your back legs and pawing the air. I think you had a rough 9 years before you arrived at FFL. Such a sweet little guy!

Newt (Newties)- a mix of mixes, 13#, anywhere from 11-15 years old, and still as feral as you were when you and your other 20 "relatives" arrived at FFL in November 2009! Everything just started shutting down August 17th. What a stinker you were, but you loved the other dogs in your group, and I loved you. The last day of your life was when I was able to finally pet you and sing to you till you got your wings.

You are all missed!
